Laura Pratt, a member attorney with the full-service law firm of Sprouse Shrader Smith PLLC, has been elected to the Board of Trustees of the Texas Bar Foundation. Ms. Pratt took office on June 1, 2025.

Using her background in science, Laura Pratt maintains a diverse legal practice focusing on business and commercial litigation, specifically business disputes, oil and gas, eminent domain, environmental law, and agricultural law. With experience in both federal and state court litigation and appellate courts, she has handled a wide range of business disputes on both sides of actions for insurance, contract disputes, eminent domain, regulatory or code compliance, and land disputes.

Laura also handles a variety of transactional, administrative, and regulatory law issues on all levels, including matters involving credit unions, county FSAs, school boards, water districts, local governments, and state agencies.  She has assisted clients in developing strong policies and procedures to ensure regulatory compliance in business operations. She has also represented clients in matters before the State Office of Administrative Hearings and the USDA’s National Appeals Division.

She began her very diverse legal career at the City of Lubbock Attorney’s Office, practicing municipal law and specializing in environmental compliance and natural resources law. She was also a  municipal prosecutor. After two years overseas in the Middle East, Laura returned to Lubbock where she co-founded and served as Executive Director of OneVoiceHome, a local non-profit that supports survivors of sex trafficking.

Before practicing law, she earned her J.D. from Texas Tech University School of Law with a Law and Science Certificate, and she earned B.A. in Biochemistry, with a minor in Business Management from the University of Arkansas.

As evidenced by this recent election to the Texas Bar Foundation Board of Trustees, Laura is passionate and committed to public service in a variety of roles. Although born and raised in east Texas, Laura now resides in Lubbock with her husband, an assistant principal for Frenship ISD, and their three children.

Founded in 1965 by attorneys dedicated to advancing justice and improving the legal profession, the Texas Bar Foundation is proud to celebrate its 60th anniversary in 2025. Since its inception, the Foundation has awarded over $29 million in grants to nonprofit organizations across Texas that are engaged in justice-related initiatives. The 2024–2025 fiscal year marked a record-breaking milestone, with over $1.7 million in grant funding awarded.
